Meet Licensed Therapist April Lacey, MA, LPC, LPCC

(She/her/hers)

With more than 9 years of experience in the mental health field, I have learned that the most important aspect of effective mental health counseling is the relationship between the therapist and the client. From that relationship, all the tried-and-true therapy techniques can blossom. I use a variety of therapy techniques, including EMDR therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and adjustment to life changes. I can help you build a deeper understanding of yourself by asking you the right questions and providing you with the right tools to grow. Whether you are looking for Eugene therapy or a Los Angeles therapist, I am here to help.

How Can I Help You?

Therapy Treatment for Depression

Depression can feel like you are stuck in a pool of thick mud. You can barely move. You struggle to do anything. You are just trying to survive. But the worst part is, you beat yourself for being stuck there. People are often relieved at how healing it can be to talk about their depression with a person who understands. A depression therapist can work wonders on your mood, self-esteem, and sense of hopefulness about your ability to get to a better place in your life. I offer holistic therapy that considers all aspects of your life and experiences, to offer you the best possible insights and solutions.

Therapy Treatment for Anxiety

Anxiety is a powerful force that affects your mind and body. It is a nervous anticipation of a threat. It can inhibit you from living the life you want to live, as you constantly avoid people, places and things that might trigger it. An anxiety therapist in Eugene Oregon may be just what you need to start learning how to manage your anxiety. My goal is to collaborate with you and understand your anxieties, so that I may support you in living the life you want to live. I use a variety of techniques, from DBT therapy, CBT, and EMDR therapy, which can help you to reduce anxiety and its impact on your mind and body.

Therapy Treatment for Life Changes

Online therapy can be a great resource for those struggling to adjust to life changes. Having space to voice all the strong emotions that arise out of life’s changes can be a very healing experience. As a Eugene therapist, I am skilled at supporting people going through a variety of changes, from moving, to losing loved ones, to the ending of relationships, and many more issues. I can help you tune in to your emotions and honor your own feelings. I can support you in learning to trust your instincts and your ability to navigate life’s changes.

Let’s work together to address your concerns and achieve balance.

Holistic Therapy Approaches

CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT helps us become aware of unhelpful or inaccurate thoughts so we can look at difficult situations more clearly and respond more effectively. CBT can include therapeutic “homework” assignments to help us practice new ways of behaving that are beneficial to us.

DBT: Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT involves CBT, Humanism, and mindfulness to balance opposing views and reduce distress. While not a certified DBT therapist, I am skilled in DBT strategies like mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapists empower us to take an active role in our own treatment, provide an emotionally and psychologically safe space, build our understanding of the aftereffects of trauma, enhance our coping skills, help reduce our shame, and aim to heal the underlying issues created by a traumatic event.

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy

EMDR is an effective psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. The techniques allow the mind to heal from psychological trauma.

How Does Therapy Work?

For those seeking Eugene mental health services, and for all locations, the first step is a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer your questions, explain my therapy style, and see if we are a good fit.

If you want to move forward with online therapy, we will set up our first intake/assessment session, which is a video call (approximately 90 minutes), where I ask you many questions about your background, history, and what brings you into therapy now. During that conversation, I will collaborate with you to develop treatment goals. I often use the question: “what would you like to be different as a result of therapy? What goals do you have, however big or small?” Once we decide on your goals, we can start meeting regularly for our therapy sessions.
